Bihar Government Withdraws Enhanced Security Cover of Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi After Review
The Bihar government has withdrawn the enhanced security cover of former Chief Ministers Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi following a review of protection arrangements for prominent individuals in the state. Tej Pratap Yadav's security cover has also been withdrawn, while the security arrangements for Tejashwi Yadav, Misa Bharti, and Rajshree Yadav remain unchanged.
According to an official notification issued late Thursday, former Chief Ministers Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi will no longer receive the enhanced security cover. Instead, their security will now be managed by the Bihar Special Armed Police.
The review also resulted in the withdrawal of the Y-category security cover provided to Tej Pratap Yadav, president of the Janshakti Janta Dal and the elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Yadav.
Officials stated that the decision was taken after the state government conducted an assessment of security requirements for various protected individuals. The enhanced security category includes a dedicated team of trained personnel equipped with advanced weapons and protective resources.
Despite the withdrawal of the enhanced security cover, Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi will continue to receive security protection. Their revised security arrangement includes two to eight residential guards from the Bihar Special Armed Police, two personal security officers from the Patna District Force, and access to a pilot vehicle and a bulletproof vehicle.
The government has, however, retained the Y-plus security cover provided to Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav. Officials confirmed that his security arrangements remain unchanged following the review.
The notification further stated that the existing security provisions for Member of Parliament Misa Bharti, the eldest daughter of Lalu Yadav, and Rajshree Yadav, wife of Tejashwi Yadav, will also continue without any modification.
The move marks a notable change in the security framework surrounding some of Bihar’s most prominent political figures and reflects the state administration’s ongoing review of protection measures for high-profile leaders and public representatives.
